A reusable range hood filter traps grease before it reaches the fan and duct. Cleaning it improves airflow, but the filter must be removed carefully and allowed to dry completely before returning it to the hood.
Power down and remove
Switch off the hood and let the cooking surface cool. Open the retaining latch while supporting the filter with both hands. Photograph the orientation if several filters overlap, and check the manual before using a dishwasher or degreaser.
Soak the metal mesh
Place the filter in a sink or tub with hot water and a grease-cutting dish detergent. Let it soak, then scrub along the mesh with a soft brush. Do not bend the frame or use a sharp tool that could open gaps in the filter layers.
Rinse and inspect
Rinse until the water runs clear and check the frame for corrosion, loose mesh, or permanent clogging. If the filter is disposable charcoal rather than washable metal, replace it according to the manufacturer’s instructions instead of soaking it.
Dry before reinstalling
Stand the filter upright on a clean towel until no moisture remains. Reinstall it in the original direction and secure every latch. Run the hood briefly and listen for vibration or scraping before cooking.
Clean the filter monthly when frying often and more frequently if grease is visible. A clean filter helps the fan capture cooking residue efficiently.
