A recycling station works when the containers are easy to reach, clearly separated, and cleaned before odors or leaks spread. The best location leaves a clear path and does not block plumbing, ventilation, or cabinet doors.
Choose the location
Measure the available cabinet or drawer space and leave room for the container to slide out fully. Keep recycling away from heat and standing water. Use a washable liner or bin that matches local collection rules.
Make sorting obvious
Use simple labels for accepted materials and keep a small reference card nearby if the rules are complex. Rinse containers as required, flatten cardboard, and keep food residue out of the recycling bin.
Prevent odors
Wipe the bin weekly and dry it before replacing the liner. Store bottles and cans so water cannot pool at the bottom. If pests appear, clean the surrounding cabinet and remove food waste promptly.
A small station is easier to maintain when it reflects what your local service actually accepts.
