A dishwasher door seal keeps wash water inside the tub and helps the appliance run quietly. When the gasket becomes flattened, split, or coated with residue, a small leak can damage flooring and cabinets. Replacement is practical when the door and tub are otherwise sound.
Confirm the leak source
Dry the door edge and run a short cycle while watching from a safe position. Check the corners, lower door edge, and nearby hose connections. Do not remove panels while the dishwasher is powered. A leak from underneath may not be caused by the door gasket.
Remove and clean
Open the door and note how the old gasket sits in its channel. Pull it out gently and clean the groove with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Remove food film without scratching the plastic. Let the channel dry before fitting the replacement.
Fit the new seal
Use the exact part specified for the dishwasher model. Press the gasket evenly into the channel, starting at the center and working toward the corners. Do not stretch it, twist it, or cut it unless the manufacturer specifically directs that procedure.
Test the door
Close the door and check that the latch engages normally. Run a short cycle while inspecting the perimeter. If water still appears, stop the appliance and investigate leveling, hinges, spray arms, and the lower door seal rather than forcing the gasket tighter.
